random
8-random-facts thing. These are the rules:
8. I love lists with no point. They are my go to thing, i do most things string of consciousness without thought for grammar or punctuation...i like free form. i hate using my shift key....and like the feeling of not giving a second thought to what comes out of my brain. this often gets me in trouble... or stresses me out when i get overly cautious about what i say...
it goes with me being one of the most random person in the universe
in the past few days i have randomly expressed questions over wheter or not water was scientifically frictive, the logistics of turtle sex (well that wasnt random), the giant anteater baby at the zoo, and a number of other things that seem normal to me and are totes not to anyone else.
7. I adore family stories and stories from childhood.
i eat them up...from anyone....not only people im related too...esp when told in that time right after dinner...i just love stories.
it might come from being raised by a very verbose exuberant family...and tuned by a children's librarian who lived for story hour, and a never ending stream of NPR ....aka an early love for the likes of David Sederis who is the master at the family story...we used to go to storytelling festivals all the time....i love the cadence of peoples voices and the rhythms with which they speak.
there is an art to telling them that everyone in my family seems to have, that i dont. but i do like listening and like a little kid the retelling of things i already have heard a thousand times. ...one of the qualities i find most attractive in people is the ability to tell a story truly well (and i think i got that :))
its a great way to learn things you never knew about a person, and awesome new things about your family even.
for instance tonight we got on the topic of fire stations which led to my sister telling me and my niece a story about my mother that i had never heard before...but pretty much sums up the type of person she was:
In a great examples of things that only would happen to my mother (some say i inherited this trait) the car broke down a few days before Christmas...during rush hour, on a busy street....near the entrance to the mall...with 4 children. apparently this was in front of the fire station so she marched us over there, banged on the door and we hung out there well she waited for my father and the tow truck or whatever....so during this time of randomly subjecting the awesome firemen to us for a number of hours she apparently made friends...and from that point on would stop by the fire station to bring food or cookies every couple weeks and hang out at the fire house....that pole was kick ass.
she had this thing about gestures of thanks for people who helped her out...like the time the basement flooded so there had to be a special garbage pick -up and she was so pleased with the nice garbage men that she wrote a letter to the city that became published on the front page of the metro section of the Chicago tribune.
she was that type of lady...its why she had all sorts of weird friends, like priests, foreign scientists, and those few years where we housed unwed pregnant teenagers and wayward random teens that were kicked out of their homes...she just knew people...its not like she was part of an organization that i knew about
anyway ...i like stories..they are the best way to learn about people...and one of the only ways i know how to describe how im feeling...i tell some sort of weird story from my past to try and explain why i react in a certain way.
6. i am having a completely shitty day...of epic proportions....it just sucks....i messed up something mighty awful in the past 6 months and this is the end result. but im cheering up...i usually do once bad news hits, i do well after processing...a bad end is at least an end. im actually more relaxed than i have been in months, the nauseous feeling at the pit of my stomach is gone to a certain extent.
5. I compulsively push my glasses up my nose. You know the one finger press up the bridge of your nose thing....yeah i do that all the time...even when i dont have my glasses on...and then get all confused as to why i am poking myself in the forehead.
4. I love random animal facts and random animals...i mean adore....i am currently quite excited about this new baby giant anteater at the zoo....and maybe a baby pigmy hippo. The giant anteater is about a month old and about 3 lbs....they arent sure of the gender yet and they currently spend all their time on the backs of their moms. ...pigmy hippos are just awesome...hippos are viscous....i like zebus and okapis...and hybrid animals like the wolphin...turtles have hooked penises (that come out of the anus as turtle have but one opening), ducks curly ones, and ducks have violent sex...moose can dive up to 18 feet underwater to feast on seaweed and then float up by their tales...zebras are reactionary and giraffes are insincere.
i have a secret love for the show Growing up... on animal planet....and like those animal cop shows
3. it has always bugged me that read is both past and present tense. seriously it drives me nuts everytime i use it in the past tense...it just bothers me.
2. i cant sing for shit (in fact my girlfriend has banned me from even attempting to sing) but i will randomly make up songs about what i am doing through out the day. like...baby wake up..and i need to take a shower but you are still awake...why arent you napping yet cause i feel groooody...and im washing the blue dish..yes the blue dish....i dont even realize i am doing it...but i do.
1. i LOVE explosions.....and disaster movies...and action movies. when i am grumpy i will cheer up right away at the sight of a bad action movie....im sure i have a ranting post about them somewhere on this blog...i have done it a few times. if i could teach one class it would be on the formula of a disaster movie.
im hella excited about every summer for all of the horrible summer blockbusters...because i adore them...they just make me all excited and happy and riled up.
if you get me started i can talk about action movies til the cows come home...the other night in a rather sad attempt to cheer someone up i got carried away with a rant about awesome denzel washingtons rigoutous anger movies ....which lead to a lengthy excited listing of my favorite moments in movies where people drop to their knees in the dark muddy rainstorm (most likely on a dirty road in a puddle) and scream "NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" to the heavens
i love that shit....
one of the highlights of my life was seeing this building implode ...from right up front:
